-India Class- (Year 4)

Welcome to India class!

Your teachers are Mrs Peterson (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) and Miss Abbott (Thursday and Friday). Our HLTA is Mrs Revens (PPA cover Wednesday afternoon) and our LSA is Mrs Gibbs.

Our first topic this year is...

Turn it Up!

The focus of this topic is sound and light. We will explore the science behind how sounds are made and how we hear them. Once we understand this, we will make plenty of noise through our music lessons and build our own instruments in design and technology! We will also learn about where light comes from and how shadows are formed.

This half term will start with the book, 'Leon and the Place Between' by Grahame Baker-Smith:

We use this book as a starting point for learning about a range of grammar and vocabulary as well as some other text types. Our writing is based on the themes in the story and we will have lots of opportunities to develop writing skills.

'Pobble Writing' gives us the chance to practice independent writing skills each week by responding to a picture or photo in any way we wish, using our previous writing experience. We also use a variety of other short texts to help develop reading aloud and comprehension.

This half term's maths focuses on learning about place value in two, three and four digit numbers and also some addition and subtraction methods. We are learning to use both practical resources and written methods to calculate and solve problems. Every day, we practice mental arithmetic and there's lots of opportunities to work on times tables too.

At St Edmundsbury, we use TT Rock Stars to practice times tables and this can be accessed at home too with your username and password. Tables will be tested each week to see how you are all getting on and to help you to keep making progress with these.

Home Learning

- Try to read as much as you can (a little each day is best). You can read anything you like! Just remember to record it in your Homework Diary. You will be given log-in details for 'My-On' which is an online reading site where you can access hundreds of different books and quizzes to go with them.

- Work on TT Rock Stars online or on the App to practise your tables.

- Practise your spellings as much as possible. These will be put on your class Microsoft Teams page each week. Please let your teacher know if you need a paper copy to take home.
