Early Years

In our Early Years' Classrooms, (Reception) we continue to follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, building on the children’s learning experiences from home, nursery and pre-school.

We work towards achieving the Early Learning Goals, differentiating learning experiences and activities to support and challenge, whatever the child’s stage of development. Our curriculum is based around topics that are planned to incorporate the seven areas of learning:

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

Throughout the year we study a number of topics which may last from a couple of weeks up to half a term. Topics which we explore each year are: Getting to Know Me; Diwali; Christmas and Easter with additional topics added to reflect the specific needs and interests of the children. In the past few years these have included: Space; Harvest; Dinosaurs; Autumn; Creatures; Fairytales; The Gruffalo; Farms; In the Garden; Holidays; Africa; Animals; Chinese New Year; Elmer; It’s an Emergency!; Penguins; and Our Wonderful Earth. Where appropriate topics are supported with visitors into school and trips both within the local area and further afield.
