NATIONAL TIMESTABLES TEST

All Y4 children will participate in the national Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) - an on-line test which tests their recall of multiplication facts for all tables up to and including 12x  (no division facts are tested).  They have 6 seconds to answer each question, and this is how we conduct our weekly checks.  The tests will be completed in June.

For more information on how maths in taught in primary schools, parents can access a number of guidance videos using the following link:

White Rose Parent Videos

As in previous years, we will be using the White Rose Maths Mastery approach to teaching maths. In the first half of autumn term, we will help children to recall their prior maths learning with a focus on place value, addition and then subtraction. Children will learn different methods for adding and subtracting with 2 and 3 digit numbers and apply these to problem solving and reasoning questions. Content for this unit is very similar for year 3 and year 4 and children will be encouraged to secure their skills before they move on to using larger numbers and solving more complex problems.

At St Edmundsbury, we use TT Rock Stars to practice times tables and this can be accessed at home with your username and password. Tables will be tested each week to see how you are all getting on and to help you to keep making progress with these. Children have been provided with their log-in details to bring home. Please let us know if you are having any problems accessing the site.

Weekly Spellings

Year 3 and 4 Common Exception Spellings

As well as the weekly spelling words, year 3 and 4 children are required to be able to spell a number of common exception words.  Please work weekly with your child to choose 3 new words that they are not yet secure with to practise.  An individualised  list of your child's tested words are in their homework diary.
