Visions and Values

At St Edmundsbury our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy 'global citizens'.

The biblical foundation for the mission of our school - our Christian Vision - is based upon Colossians 3:23 - 'Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart...' In summary this means that we try our hardest at whatever we do, at whatever time and whoever we are. We do whatever we do in the name of the Lord. Live a life where not one minute or ounce of energy is wasted. We do it with all our hearts with love, whilst building positive relationships with every person whatever their background, wherever they are from as Jesus taught us. This will allow staff to provide the best we can for the children and their families and children to do the best they can at all they do to ensure the best possible outcomes - now and in the future.

The values which underpin our Christian Vision are:

Compassion       Friendship       Forgiveness      Perseverance       Respect         Thankfulness

Promoting British Values

St Edmundsbury CEVA Primary School is committed to serving its community.  We recognise the multi-cultural, multi faith and ever-changing nature of the United Kingdom.  We also understand the vital role we have in ensuring that groups or individuals within our school community are not subjected to intimidation or radicalisation by those wishing to unduly, or illegally, influence them.

We follow equal opportunities guidance which guarantees that there will be no discrimination against any individual or group, regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, political or financial status, or similar. St Edmundsbury School is dedicated to preparing children for the next stage in their education and life and ensuring that we promote and reinforce British values to all our children.

The Government emphasises that schools are required to ensure that key ‘British Values’ are taught in all UK schools.  The government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy.

The five British Values are:

Democracy

  • The rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect
  • Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
